Overall Goals:
To capitalize on broad community awareness of “local food is healthier food” created by national health-nutrition trends, the prevalence of farmers' markets throughout Connecticut and the increased marketing and promotional infrastructure behind farmers' markets across the state.
To respond to the concern that even though residents in the region exhibit a heightened interest in supporting local farms and buying farm-fresh food, they have trouble finding it, particularly in a convenient and consistent marketplace setting.  Farmers' markets have been proven to be one of the best direct-marketing venues for farmers.  Additionally, they are an integral part of building a local food system and a local economy capable of promoting sustainability and social engagement within the community.

Principal Operational Goals:
1)  To help environmentally responsible farmers, educational institutions and communities achieve nutritional well-being through sustainable interaction with farm-fresh local foods and;
2)  To achieve sustainable behavior change through implementation of
     sound education and training programs.

Programs:
We are proposing four specific initiatives that build on existing successful programs, providing synergy to achieve our goals.
